Eating Better – eating less and better meat

Logo of the Eating Better allianceThe UK Food Group is supporting the Eating Better alliance, a campaign that encourages people in the UK to eat less and better meat and promotes diets including more plant-based and unprocessed foods that are better for us and the planet.

The UK Food Group is a partner network of the Eating Better alliance and it welcomes its efforts to promote fair, green and healthy diets, a mission that complements the UK Food Group own work towards achieving equitable and sustainable food and farming systems that fuse social justice with vibrant ecosystems across the world.

Launched in July 2013, the Eating Better alliance was developed by a broad range of UK organisations and has already attracted the support of over 30 NGOs. While its starting point is the UK, the alliance is already developing links in Europe and globally and a number of their supporting organisations and partner networks are already working internationally in order to learn from and inspire other initiatives. The UK Food Group applauds this international approach to promote action at both local and global level through the collective effort of civil society.

They aim to achieve their vision for a world that poses greater value on the food we eat, the animals that provide it and the people who produce it by adopting a cross-sectoral approach to making change happen by both lobbying for adequate policies and stimulating long-term cultural shifts.

Eating Better is liaising with government to seek Ministerial commitment to follow up the conclusions of the Green Food Project’s sustainable food consumption report and adopt guidelines for healthy and sustainable diets.
